Family Photography Studio Session | Okotoks Family Photographer
Recently I heard that this mama is on the short list to be the next Canadian astronaut. Like...to go to SPACE people!!! So, I thought I'd share her studio family session from awhile ago.
I think people have this horrible idea of studio sessions. Like it will be in some grungy room with tonnes of equipment so they will spend a great deal of time stressing over their children's behaviour instead of enjoying the photographic experience. My studio is not like that AT ALL. It is a natural light studio--meaning, big windows, white walls and bright, kid friendly decor that hides things like Lego and Playmobil. The result are modern, simple photographs that focus on your child's personality and the connection that your family has together. For this session, I suggested the parents bring along some of the children's favourite items. So, one child choose her blankie while another brought his hockey stick(how Canadian is that? he even sleeps with it). There is never a rush--if a child needs to take a break to play with a pirate ship, we take a break to do that. If someone needs to go potty, there is a child friendly bathroom. And, if they need snacks, I've got you covered there as well. So, don't think of this as a studio photography session--think of it as visiting a friend who will take some sweet photographs of you all!! It's a nice alternative to going outside on those crappy days or for families who want a more modern look to their family photographs.
And--a little heads up for all of you local people!! My birthday is coming up and I will be having a HUGE SALE on both studio and on location sessions. If you are planning on a session with me this year--this will be the time to book, so WATCH FOR IT!!!
Enjoy!

This is Happiness
Weddings are tough for me to blog. How do I narrow down roughly 2000 images into something I can share with everyone? What do you show? Have I said this before? I'm sure that I have said this before. ha.
So, for this wedding...I decided to just try and show you how the day felt to me. More than a little bit emotional with a dash of quirkiness and a giant belly laugh. I decided that is the perfect combination to describe 'happiness'. This bride had a couple of moment of nervousness, but, mostly, she radiated. She glowed. Especially during the ceremony. And, the groom, who was very concerned that things were perfect for her, would periodically look up at the crowd and beam. So...happiness. This is happiness.
Flowers by Blue Hydrangea(just saying...cause they did a gorgeous job).
Motherhood
This is a recent shot from a studio session I did. As much as I love the big, loud moments with huge expression and bright colours...there is something equally as appealing to me as these quiet moments. These soft moments of motherhood. They aren't so obvious. We have to search for them. But they are so precious because in amongst the temper tantrums and the teething, we might forget sometimes that they existed.

5 Minutes of Motherhood
I had the extreme pleasure of staying with this family on a recent trip to Abbotsford. Their mother is the extremely talented Kyla Ewert. I was there presenting to a group of wonderful photographers about sustainable business practices(I'd love to do more of that if any one is interested. I am passionate about artists making a decent living). She leant me her new Sigma 24mm art lens for a few minutes and these are the images I created while I followed them up and down the driveway. I shared them over at the 5 Minute Project blog as well...in case you want to take a look. Just a quick note to say that no one was ever in any danger from falling off their bike ;) At the pace we were going, it would have been faster to walk them ;) Just saying...
