Yesterday, I loved scrolling through my Instagram feed. I love halloween. Love it. And, having the opportunity to see all of my friends kids all dressed up in their costumes was like having them all come to my door :) Even if they live far away. Here are my two...Minecraft Steve(or Herobrine...if you are a Minecraft freak you might understand that) and Ruby Gloom(Georgia's favorite cartoon character). Right here is proof that I have the most amazing husband...he spent the weekend making Jack's costume dreams come true. And, for a little boy who is often not very popular at school, having a day when everyone thought he was awesome was the best gift a dad could give him :)
so...do you Instagram? I would love to follow you if you do...you can find me at danapugh. And, if you DON'T you should.

Wonderland
I had the loveliest time with these people this weekend. Their excitement, their joy, and their love for one another was palpable. What a treat to have witnessed it all. This was my fourth session with this couple. They have had a maternity session, a newborn session, an engagement session and now a wedding. I will admit to shedding a tear or two throughout the day. I will also say how grateful I am to have had so few complaints from the bridal party about how cold it was. You guys were all such troopers--especially the bride and groom who stayed outside in the snow for well over an hour.
I am officially in love with winter weddings...I would probably feel differently if it was much colder, but it was so beautiful and peaceful being out in the silence of the winter woods.

John Hughes and Bullying
While I edit, I watch tv shows or old movies on a second monitor. It might sound weird, but it keeps me on task and off the internet. That said, I can't actually watch movies that require too much concentration on my part because I am working and sometimes I'll miss giant chunks of what's going on. So, I often choose to watch movies I've seen before or fluff television. True story. I am a huge Survivor fan because of this...but, this fall, I've also watched all of the old John Hughes movies on Netflix. I was a teenager in the 80's. These are the movies we went to see on Cheap Tuesdays when the movies were only two dollars. The kids in these movies are the kids we related to...the kids we wanted to be. So, that got me thinking...what kind of movies do young audiences get today? And, you know what that answer is? CRAP. They don't long to be as pretty as Molly Ringwald...their teen idols are probably not teenagers at all...and if they are...there is nothing authentic about them or the shows that they are in. Fake boobs. Fake hair. Too much makeup living in a world that no real teenager can afford(except perhaps the rich kids of instagram, but don't get me started on that one). The media that our kids see is hardly a reflection of real life...it's a parody. And, the winners are always the popular kids--or if they aren't the popular kids, they certainly look like the popular kids at your school.
Growing up with John Hughes we saw that no matter what 'clique' you belonged to, you all had issues and insecurities. The popular girl in our teen movies was a freckle faced redhead that you could imagine being your best friend. There was something cool about the geeks. Anthony Michael Hall was such a loveable nerd that even though he clearly belonged in that clique, there is no way you couldn't like him. Ditto for Jon Cryer...I mean...in Pretty In Pink, I almost related more to Duckie than I did to Andy(Ringwald's character).
Don't get me wrong...I know that bullying still went on back then, but I think that no matter who you were you could find a sort of validation in the popular movies. It was like Hughes was reaching out to us and showing us our lives--our REAL lives--and telling us that it will all work out in the end. I don't think teenagers have that today. I think they have almost the opposite in fact...media telling them to conform or else. I wonder where the John Hughes of their generation is...

Pughville on Pinterest
Are you all on Pinterest yet? I have been on there for awhile...I struggled to understand what exactly it was for at first, but...now that I have the hang of it...I absolutely love it. It is full of recipes that look delicious(but I'll probably NEVER have time to make), crafts I dream of making, and home decor inspiration that I simply cannot afford. ha. I still pin it all anyways...you know...for one day :) I do have a couple of boards for my clients--one being 'fun things to do with pictures'.
I am planning on getting a couple of wall groupings completed in my own home this winter, so I love having all of this inspiration! I promise I'll share--especially, my clean up of the gallery going down my stairs. It is a place in my house that everyone asks about, but I've never shown it because it needs ~ahem~ fixing to say the least. If any of my clients want to take pictures of wall displays they have created with the photographs I have done for them, I would love to share them here on the blog as well...and I promise to 'pin them' to my board!!
For me, Pinterest is the type of social media where you need to follow as many people as possible to get the most enjoyment out of it...so, if you don't already follow me on Pinterest, I'd love it if you did! I promise to follow you and follow all the things that inspire you :) Find me at Pughville.
If you're in Calgary and you don't have a million things to do like me...then, today is a perfect day to spend some time exploring the things people pin. Stay warm and drive safe people!
